"I welcome John Denham MP, the Communities Secretary's strong comments and leadership on the fascists attacks and demonstrations against Islam. These groups have one aim and that is to provoke and cause disharmony amongst our diverse communities and we must come together to defeat it. I am glad that Mr. Denham has come round to the point made by the Ramadhan Foundation in recent weeks that Politicians have a duty to come out and condemn these fascists and their demonstrations.
Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to a survivor of similar demonstrations by Oswald Mosley and British Union of Fascists in the 1930's who told me of the pain she and the Jewish community suffered in the run up to the 2nd World War and she feels she is reliving those memories today but the target is Islam and Muslims.
Wherever these fascists in the English Defence League or affiliated bodies
appear there is violence and mayhem on the streets and it is time for the
British people to come together any reject these modern day fascists. I
join Mr. Denham is appealing to remain calm and not allow these groups
success in provoking people.
Let's now hear from the other politicians and leaders, their silence is worrying."
