This is a letter that I have just sent to my local news paper – now let see if it gets published?
Not in the Name of Islam
I wish to make it quite clear that those who commit acts of terror, murder and cruelty in the name of Islam (and may I also say in any other religion) are not only destroying innocent lives, but are betraying the values of the faith they CLAIM to represent.
No injustice done to Muslims can ever justify the destruction of innocent lives, and no act of terror will ever serve the cause of Islam.
Any TRUE Muslim should repudiate and dissociate themselves from any Muslim group or individual who commits such devastating and un-Islamic acts. I refuse to allow my faith to be held hostage by those who take it upon themselves to act in such a manner. Those who have acted in this way should hang their heads in shame for their actions in degrading the teachings of both the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW/PBUH).
It says in the Qur’an: ‘Oh you who believe, stand up firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even if it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be against rich or poor; for God can best protect both. Do not follow any passion, lest you not be just. And if you distort or decline to do justice, verily God is well-acquainted with all that you do.’" (Qur’an 4:135)
I hope that all the Muslims in this country and throughout the World will, once and for all, reject this type of act committed in the name of Islam.
Those of us who truly belief in the teachings of the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW/PBUH), Christians, Jewish and people of all faiths MUST do whatever they can to help end this growing mutual hostility and hatred that is engulfing our world today, because no religion teaches us to destroy lives or distort their teachings or beliefs to suit themselves. And anyone who does distort their faith or others in this matter are no better than those committing such atrocities because it is not their beliefs or faith in the Almighty but sheer blind hated of fellow human beings.
May God forgive us and guide us to be better than what we are.
Carol Greenhalgh (Kiran A I)
