Allah forgives the minor sins of the two believers who shake hands

Al-Bara' (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,

"Two Muslims will not meet and shake hands without
having their sins forgiven (by Allah ) before they depart.''

[Abu Dawud].

Commentary: Herein, we are told that Allah forgives the minor sins of the two believers who shake hands.

However, major sins cannot be forgiven without heartfelt epentance with its conditions.

As for our duty towards our fellow-humans, it is inescapable, and a failure in this regard is not forgiven. To sum up, when two Muslims meet and shake hands, two benefits accrue to them. Firstly, their mutual love increases, and secondly, their minor sins are pardoned by Allah.

Everything You Possess is a Favor From Allah

In the world in which we live, Allah bestows many favours on man. All the
needs of each living being are benevolently met; no detail is forgotten.

Let's think about ourselves as examples. From the moment we wake in the
morning, we need many things and encounter many situations. In brief, we
survive due to the many favours bestowed upon us.

We can breathe as soon as we wake up. We never experience difficulty in
doing this, thanks to our respiratory systems functioning perfectly.

We can see as soon as we open our eyes. The sharp and distant images, all
three-dimensional and fully coloured, are perceived by our eyes, and indeed
owe their existence to the unique design of eyes.

We taste delicious flavours. The relative proportions of the vitamin,
mineral, carbohydrate or protein content of the food we eat, or how the
excess of these nutrients are stored or utilised in the body never concern
us. Moreover, we are mostly never aware that such complicated operations
take place in our body.

When we hold some material in our hands, we immediately know if it is soft
or hard. What is more, we need no mental effort to do this. Numerous similar
minute operations take place in our body. The organs, responsible for these
operations, have complicated mechanisms. The human body functions almost
like a factory of enormous complexity and ingenuity. This body is one of the
major favours given to man since man leads his existence on earth with it.

At this point, a question remains to be answered: how are the raw materials
necessary to operate this factory supplied? To put it another way, how do
water, air, and all the other nutrients essential for life come into
existence?

Let's think about fruits and vegetables. Melons, watermelons, cherries,
oranges, tomatoes, peppers, pineapples, mulberries, grapes, eggplants… all
grow in soil from seeds, and the seed has a structure sometimes as hard as
wood. However, while considering these, we should avoid habitual ways of
thinking and employ different methods. Visualise the delicious tastes and
odours of strawberries or the ever-changing odour of melon.

Think about the time and energy spent in laboratories to produce similar
odours and about the repeated trials that resulted in failure. Indeed,
results obtained by scientists in laboratories prove to be no better than
the unsuccessful imitations of their natural counterparts. The varieties of
taste, odour and colour in nature bear indeed matchless attributes.

That all vegetables and fruits have distinct tastes and odours and carry
individual colours is the result of the design particular to them. They are
all favours Allah bestows upon man.

Similarly, animals, too, are created specially for human beings. Apart from
serving as food, man finds their physical appearances appealing. Fish,
corals, star-fishes decorating the depths of oceans with all their beautiful
colours, all kinds of birds adding charm to their habitat or cats, dogs,
dolphins and penguins… they are all favours from Allah. Allah stresses this
fact in many verses:

And He has made everything in the heavens and everything on the earth
subservient to you. It is all from Him. There are certainly signs in that
for people who reflect. (Surat al-Jathiyah: 13)

If you tried to number Allah's blessings, you could never count them. Allah
is Ever -Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nahl: 18)

He has given you everything you have asked Him for. If you tried to number
Allah's blessings, you could never count them. Man is indeed wrongdoing,
ungrateful. (Surah Ibrahim: 34)

The living beings mentioned above are only a tiny part of the favours and
beauties Allah bestows. Wherever we turn, we come across creations
reflecting the attributes of Allah. Allah is ar-Razzaq (the Ceaseless
Provider), al-Latif (the Subtle One, He who creates things most subtly),
al-Karim (the Generous One), al-Barr (the source of all goodness).

Now, take a look around you and think. And never plead ignorance of the fact
that everything you possess is a favour to you from your Creator:

Any blessing you have is from Allah. Then when harm touches you, it is to
Him you cry for help. (Surat an-Nahl: 53)

Explaining the Arabic word for God - Allah

Allah is the generic Arabic word for God, even Arab Christians use it, ask them yourselves!

Say: "Call upon God, or call upon The All-Compassionate: by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between". (Quran 17:110)

A few months ago, while doing some contract work, the issue of religion came up. I don't remember why it came up but a colleague told me the following joke:

"These two guys go parachuting. When they're getting ready to jump out of the plane, one guy asks the other, 'What do I do if my parachute doesn't open?' The second guy says, 'Pray to Allah.' The first guy's puzzled: 'To Allah?' The second guy says, 'Just do it.' The first guy shrugs, they both jump, and sure enough, the first guy's parachute doesn't open. At first he doesn't remember the advice and begins madly praying to God for help. No help comes. He suddenly remembers and prays to Allah for help. Suddenly a giant hand swoops down from the sky, catching and cradling him. The guy heaves a huge sigh of relief and says, 'Thank God!' So the hand drops him."

I kind of chuckled to be polite, but inwardly I just felt weary, because this is one of the most common misconceptions about Islam: that Allah is something different from the God Jews and Christians worship.

I hope to be clearing up some of the primary misconceptions and fallacies about Islam, in the hope of promoting better understanding of this religion, especially given the growing number of Muslims living in Western nations. Historically, the Western media have been guilty of spreading half-truths, half-baked conjecture, and often, outright lies about Islam. Most of us get precious little accurate information about it in our education. With recent events surrounding the attacks on the United States, and the numerous subsequent attacks on Muslims and Arabs, I can hardly think of a better time to sort out some of these things.
I've even heard people refer contemptuously to the God of Islam as a "desert god," as if Judaism and Christianity originated in "Yankee Stadium" or something! The fact is that Allah is simply a compound word made from the Arabic words al (the) and lah (god): Allah (The God). In Spanish we have el (the) and in French La, le or les (again: the). Monotheism - the belief in a single, supreme, divine creator - is the central and most important aspect of Islam.

Among His Signs are the Night and the Day, and the Sun and the Moon. Do not prostrate to the sun and the moon, but prostrate to Allah, Who created them, if it is Him ye wish to serve. (Quran 41:37)

The generic word for God in Arabic is therefore “Allah”. All Arab and even Christians from the Indian subcontinent use the word “Allah” when referring to God. These Christians also say "Allah-u-akbar" (God is the greatest), "Insha-allah" (God willing) and "Alham-dul-lilah" (All praise be to God). Hallelujah also literally means “praises to God”.

All of the above rules out some of the common Western stereotypes that Allah is a Sun god, a Moon god, a Desert god, a Pagan deity, or someone made up by the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). Allah is the Creator, and our Supreme being. The word Allah is preferred by most Muslims and Arab Christians even when speaking a foreign language, because it implies no gender and absolute authority. In the English language, the word god is often given the plural treatment, and you can have a female as well as a male version! Even humans are given the title of gods and goddesses based upon their superiority in a particular field, e.g. a love god or goddess.

It is also interesting to note that in the mother tongue of Jesus Christ (pbuh), which is a dialect having links with Hebrew and Aramaic, the word for God is “Alla-ha”. You've all heard variants of Eloh, Elah and Eli - well, Allah and Alla-ha are just two more. Aramaic and Arabic are sister languages. Sadly many lay-Christian scholars from the West choose to lie in the face of historical and present day fact concerning the word “Allah” and stubbornly deny that it is just a generic word for God in Arabic. We ask you to get in touch with some Arab Christians to verify for yourselves the exact origins of the Arabic name for God.

Christians who acknowledge Allah is the generic Arabic word for God:

Comments:

EL: God ("mighty, strong, prominent") used 250 times in the OT See Gen. 7:1, 28:3, 35:11; Nu. 23:22; Josh. 3:10; 2 Sam. 22:31, 32; Neh. 1:5, 9:32; Isa. 9:6; Ezek. 10:5. El is linguistically equivalent to the Arabic "Allah," but the attributes of Allah in Islam are entirely different from those of the God of the Hebrews as we know. Elah is Aramaic, "god." Elah appears in the Hebrew Bible in Jer. 10:11 (which is in Aramaic, and is plural, "gods"). In Daniel (the Aramaic sections) Elah is used both of pagan gods, and of the true God, also plural. Elah is equivalent to the Hebrew Eloah which some think is dual; Elohim is three or more. The gods of the nations are called "elohim." The origin of Eloah is obscure. Elohim is the more common plural form of El. Eloah is used 41 times in Job between 3:4 and 40:2, but fewer than 15 times elsewhere in the OT.

"Elah is used both of pagan gods, and of the true God"

The above statement makes the claim that "Elah" was used for the True God and also the Pagan gods. The exact same was true for the word "Allah", it was used in a variety of ways too. To make it clear for us lets look at the way we use the word "God" in the modern age. We give the title of god to anyone we feel deserves the praise for whatever reason. Is this 'lending the title of god' a new phenomenon though? I doubt it very much. Elah and Allah are both simply generic names for God.

We Love Allah Day

Today many will celebrate St. Valentines' Day. Many will profess their love for one another. Many will indulge in illicit sex and many will partake of Drugs (Viagra included) and Alcohol. Actions befitting a day originally celebrated in honor of pagan gods of Rome. Of course a few will relate the day to remembrance of the Saint for which it is named. Even fewer will remember the One who really loves them most.

Setting aside the irreverence of honoring or praying to persons or objects that lack any power to aid us or are deserving of any credit for our existence or our well being. Let's take a look at some other days we celebrate; Presidents day, Christmas day, Mother's day, Thanksgiving Day, and Birthdays. We remember and honor those persons or events that we Love or that are important to us on such days. Yet there is no specific day that we celebrate the most important person or event in our life's, our existence and our creator. Of course here is the Sabbath , but that is a commandment (whether it is Friday, Saturday, or Sunday it is required) besides many of us attend the observances just to show off our new clothes or our piety.

So today let us set aside a few moments and remember the one responsible for our very existence; God. It is God who loved us enough to give us the one thing none other can; Life. It is God that answers are prayers. Not any saints or prophets, not any statue or amulet, not any President or Lover, nor any priest, reverent, Imam, scholar, or Ulema . None of these can do anything for us unless God allows them to intercede on our behalves. Certainly inanimate things or mythical creatures can't do anything at all for us. Eros can not bring us love or happiness.

In fact we should instead of having a Anti-valentines day, a day that sees like Christmas and New Years' eve an increase in severe DEPRESSION, Let's start celebrating a "We Love Allah day". A tradition says that if we love Allah; Allah will love us. Why shouldn't we show love for God our creator who showed us more regard than the Angels who sang his Praises eternally.

God Loves those who:

Who Do Good
Who Are Chaste
Who show gratitude
Who are Equitable
Who are Righteous
Who are Repentant
Who Remember God

Let Us remember God today and Show our Love so that we Might Be: Strangers In Paradise

To love someone for the sake of Allah

To love someone for the sake of Allah is a grand act for which much
merit and many rewards have been promised.

"To love for the sake of Allah" means loving someone, not for worldly
gain, but because he/she is more religious and pious or busy in serving
Muslims and Islam, or because loving him or her is commanded by Allah;
like loving parents.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

"Allah shall ask on the Day of Judgment; ' Where are those who loved for
the sake of my greatness? Today when there is no shade, I shall have
them in my shade.'" [Sahih Muslim]

Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an:

"The Believers are but a single brotherhood."[49:10]

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

"There are three things, that whoever attains, will find the
sweetness of faith: If Allah and his messenger are dearer to him than
anyone else; if he loves a person solely for the sake of Allah; and if
he would hate to return to disbelief (kufr) after Allah has rescued him
from it, as much as he would hate to be thrown into fire."[Agreed upon]

Having love for Allah's pious and good bondsmen is actually an outcome
of one's love for Allah, so it earns the same rewards and merits as the
latter.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was asked:

"When shall come the Day of Judgment?" Our Prophet (pbuh) asked him :
"What preparation have you made for the Day?" The man said,
"Nothing, but I have love for Allah and for his messenger." The Prophet
(pbuh) said: "You shall be (on that Day) with whom you love."

The above saying (hadith) has been quoted by Anas. He said that these
words of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) pleased us as nothing had ever
done. He added: "I have great love for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) - may
he be eternally blessed - and with Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be
pleased with them, and because of this love, I shall be in their
company, even though my deeds are not equal to theirs." [Sahih Bukhari]

Allah has commanded Muslims to love one another, to take one another as
friends and brothers and care and help each other, Allah (swt) says in
the Qur'an:

(And hold fast by the covenant of Allah all together and be not
disunited, and remember the favor of Allah on you when you were enemies,
then He united your hearts so by His favor you became brethren; and you
were on the brink of a pit of fire, then He saved you from it, thus does
Allah make clear to you His communications that you may follow the right
way.)[3:103]

Our love for each other for the sake of Allah implies a willingness to
sacrifice our needs for the sake of our fellow Muslims' needs in a
manner that far outweighs normal sacrifice for the sake of friendship.
This pure love is crucial to maintaining Muslims' faith, if Muslims
don't have strong relations with each other, their faith will
automatically decrease.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

"The relationship between believers is like a wall, parts of which
support other parts."[Muslim]

The concept of love for the sake of Allah doesn't recognize nor
permit "friendship" between men and women that is outside of
marriage and familial bonds. However, Muslims wives and husbands shouldl
love each other for the sake of Allah, their children will love them and
love each other for the sake of Allah. This will sure result in strong
family relations and a healthy Muslim community.

A Muslim should not forsake or abandon his brother, Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) said:

"There should be no breaking off of ties, no turning away from one
another, no hating one another. Be brothers, as Allah has commanded
you."[Muslim]

Also Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) advised Muslims to show their love for one
another, he said:

"If a man loves his brother in faith, he should tell him that he
loves him."[Abu Dawud]

There are so many sayings of our Prophet (pbuh) showing that having love
for someone for the sake of Allah is an act of great merit, which grants
one the opportunity of doing good in this world and being in exalted
company in the Hereafter.

Hence, one should love good people for the sake of Allah and with the
intent of becoming good oneself and earning Allah's pleasure.

Dear Allah, I thank You for this day - Poem

I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning.
I'm blessed because You are a forgiving Allah and an understanding Allah.
You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me.
Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you.
I beg now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm.
Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude.
Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so
Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.
Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over.
And it's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits.
I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart.
Continue to use me to do Your will.
Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others.
Keep me strong that I may help the weak.
Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for
others.

I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way.
I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood.
I pray for those who don't know You intimately.
I pray for those that will delete this without sharing it with thers.
I pray for those that don't believe. But I thank you that I believe.
I believe that Allah changes people and Allah changes things.
I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households.

I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.
I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem,
circumstance, or situation greater than Allah.
Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight.
I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it.

"Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us Mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower."
(Surah Al-Imran 3:8
)
