Burkha, veil and British Government

Mr. Mohammed Shafiq, Chief Executive of the Ramadhan Foundation comments:

"I have always supported the right of women to choose how they dress and any attempt to try to stifle the right of Muslim women as shown by Philip Hollobone MP will be strongly challenged, that is why I welcome the commitment shown today by the Immigration Minister Damian Green MP and the Environment Secretary Caroline Spellman MP to the UK Government never banning the Burkha and Veil.

The uniqueness of this great nation is its freedom; the right how to dress, speak and live according to one's own choice, that is why the right of Muslim women to wear the veil should be protected by this Government and I welcome their commitment to freedom.

I do however believe that action should be taken by the Conservative Party and the House of Common authorities when a public servant refuses to meet his constituents because they wear the veil, this is a breach of the role of an MP and public service.

I am writing to the Speaker of the House of Commons today asking for that investigation"

Allahu ta’ala does not create anything useless

He does not. Allahu ta’ala is Hakim. Everything He creates has many uses. The human mind cannot comprehend these facts. Mind can assess and comprehend only things it has been familiarized with and things perceived through the sense organs.


There are innumerable hikmats (uses; the inner, esoteric reasons; the ultimate divine causes) and uses in His creating the disbelievers, giving them long lifespans, abundant food, high ranks and positions, and willing that they abide by their disbelief and commit evil deeds; in His creating snakes, swine, and poisons [and in His placing stupendously great energy that can annihilate biggest cities in the unimaginably small nucleus of an atom, itself already imperceptibly tiny; in His creating kinds of energy, such as light, electricity, magnetism, and chemistry; and in His formulating laws and orders in substances, forces, and organisms, most of which still remain unsolved and unknown despite all the studies and research carried on under various subjects, such as physics, chemistry, and biology]. It is a base and inferior deed to make something useless.

Our religion has not stated explicitly the reasons, the ultimate divine causes in the creation of numerous beings. As it commands us to observe the hikmats in His creations and thus to draw the necessary lessons from them, people must try hard to take lessons to the best of their ability.

There is many a hidden divine cause and use in the creation of each being and in each commandment and prohibition. Some people who talk heedlessly settle the matter once and for all by saying, “The reason for this is that.” However, if they say instead, “This may be one of the innumerable reasons for it,” they will perhaps fall into an error of a lesser degree. One of such people once uttered, “The reason why eating pork is prohibited in Islam is that it contains worms called trichinas.” The disbelievers, upon hearing this, said “If the reason for its prohibition is trichina worms, it is possible to kill them” and thus tried to lift the ban on it in the way their heart desires. If this man had said, “One of the reasons for the prohibition on eating pigs is trichina,” it would not have caused the disbelievers to raise an objection. Similarly, it is haram to eat the lamb that has been jugulated without saying the Basmala. How many of the hidden ultimate divine causes and useful reasons in Allah’s commandments and prohibitions can humans comprehend?

It is wrong to relate a thing to one reason alone

A gynecologist of my acquaintance, who believes in Allah, said, “The reason why girls are born with a hymen is to prevent microbes.” As his statement seemed odd to me, I asked him such questions as:

Why is such a precaution not taken to protect women against microbes while it is taken to protect girls?

Is the reason why girls and women do not have a beard to prevent the difficulty of shaving?

Is the reason why men, unlike women, are not created with the physical ability to give birth that they cannot bear difficulties?

It is wrong to seek only one hikmat behind each thing. Therefore, humans should observe the countless, astounding, and mind-blowing hikmats and thus acknowledge their weakness. If those who believe in Allah obey His commandments and prohibitions, they will attain peace.

Looking at greens, blues, and sea has a beneficial effect on eye health. There are ultimate divine causes and uses in the creation of all of the stars and planets. Even a minor deviation in the rotation of planets would cause collisions and disintegration.

In the depths of the earth is the treasure of metals hidden: various metals, coal, petroleum, cold and hot water, mineral water, thermal water … . There are many other things below ground as well. As for the things on earth, how many of them can we count? There are different plants, vegetables, fruits, animals that are given to humans to make use of. Praise be to Allahu ta’ala, the Unequalled in His hikmat, who has created all mentioned things properly and perfectly as He wishes. These are the obvious signs that testify to His existence.

The hikmats that we know are very few when compared with the ones that we do not know. There exist various beams in sunlight. If it were not for light, it might not be possible to benefit from eyes. If it were not for the sun, there would not exist day and night, and everywhere would be dark. If the Earth’s distance from the Sun were any closer, no being could live because of extreme heat. If it were any farther, then life would be impossible on Earth because of cold. Allahu ta’ala, who has created the Sun to be having the ideal remoteness from the Earth, is sublimely exalted in Glory.

One of the uses of the Moon is that it is benefited when the lunar calendar is calculated. Also, people benefit from moonlight at some nights. The tide occurs owing to the Moon’s gravitational force. If the Moon were very close to the Earth, the Earth would be flooded during the rising of seas. Our Lord, who has created the Moon to be having not a harmful but a beneficial remoteness, is sublimely exalted in Glory.

You have created all things properly and perfectly,
But their genuine nature is a mystery to everybody.

European Court Ruling spells an end to water fluoridation

Fluoridated water must be treated as a medicine, and cannot be used to prepare foods. That is the decision of the European Court of Justice, in a landmark case dealing with the classification and regulation of 'functional drinks' in member states of the European Community. (HLH Warenvertriebs and Orthica (Joined Cases C-211/03, C-299/03, C-316/03 and C-318/03) 9 June 2005)


Functional drinks are those products that have two different purposes – for example, nutrition and exerting a positive effect on some medical condition. They include 'near-water drinks with added minerals' and, in view of the properties claimed for fluoridated water by fluoride advocates, it must be classified as a 'funtional food', and therefore falls within the scope of the relevant legislation.

Medicinal law takes precedent over food law.
The Court ruled that, where two different sets of rules appear to apply to a product, medicinal legislation must take precedent, and the product must be regulated as a medicine. It emphasised that medicines regulators in member states do not have the power to exercise discretion on the classification of such dual-function products. The repeated refusal of the British and Irish Regulators to recognise fluoridated water as a medicinal product is therefore an unlawful misuse of their powers, and one that requires immediate reversal.

ECJ rulings do not establish new laws, but clarify how existing ones should be applied, and are enforceable in the domestic legislation of all member states of the EC. In effect, this decision at last confirms the claim that I have made for many years – that existing medicinal law has always required that fluoridated water be regulated as a medicine. Fluoridated water has no medicinal marketing authorization ('product licence'), and because of this it is – and always has been - illegal to supply it to the public, as the 1968 Medicines Act confirms.

As a 'medicinal water', the protection afforded by the water quality regulations that shield consumers from hazardous substances in drinking water does not apply. Its use in the processing of foodstuffs is also prohibited, under the food safety legislation. Aa a direct result of this ruling, all English and Irish legislation providing for water fluoridation are at last exposed as having been in violation of that fundamental prohibition, and must now be repealed.

Prohibition of use of fluoridated water in foods

But the Court also ruled that such functional food products must not be used in the preparation of foods. As a 'medicinal water' the fluoridated product cannot be regarded as equivalent to the mandatory 'water for human consumption' specified for drinking and food preparation. So now every food wholesale and retail outlet in fluoridated areas of the UK and Ireland, from the corner chip-shop to the largest brewery, from the small high-street bakery to the largest supermarket retailers - all will now have to either cease production or install an alternative water supply.

Implications for international trade in food products

But the ruling also has an equally profound implication for export trade in processed foods and drinks. The Court stated that even if a functional food product (or a food containing it) is legally marketed as a food in one member state, it cannot be exported to any other member state unless it has a medicinal licence. So any company making a consumable product using fluoridated water in its preparation or as an ingredient cannot now export that product to any other state in the EC, even if their product is permitted in their home state.

The economic implications are enormous. Not only does the ruling ban the use of fluoridated water for all retail catering and wholesale food processing in the UK and Ireland, it also prohibits such trade from these states to other member states of the EC. But it goes much further than even this, because if British and Irish processed foods from fluoridated areas cannot be exported to the EC, this prohibition must also apply to the importing of such products into EC member states from any other country that practiceswater fluoridation. The decision effectively bans all processed food products from countries such as the USA, Australia and New Zealand, unless they can be positively proven to have been prepared using only water that was not fluoridated.


What does this mean for water undertakers who fluoridate their product?

Before British water undertakers allow Strategic Health Authorities to order them to start fluoridating their water they need to be fully aware of the implications to them and their shareholders should they agree to do so. Not only are medical damages compensation claims likely to be far higher, with charges of negligently supplying an unlawful product forming the basis of class actions, food processers who lose their markets will certainly hold their water undertaker accountable in law for their losses. This ruling means that Courts in other member states of the EC must support demands from competing food processors that an embargo be placed on British and Irish products unless they can be proven to have been manufactured using only non-fluoridated water.

I have previously warned that this illegal product substitution cannot be permitted to continue, and that members of the public are entirely entitled to demand to be supplied with water that complies with, and is regulated under, the drinking water quality standards that are enforceable under both EC and UK (and Irish) law. Since the ruling must be enforced in all EC member states, water companies will now have to come off the fence and accept that fluoridated water is not an acceptable alternative drinking water.

The only way out - repeal all fluoridation laws and ban the product.

This decision completely supports the challenge that I have issued repeatedly to the UK Regulator, the MHRA - identify the case law that justifies your perverse claim that this product is not a medicine. Ironically, it was the MHRA itself that finally gave the game away, in a formal response to another Regulator, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). In what I can only assume was a deliberate attempt to mislead the ASA, the MHRA actually cited this case in support of its continued perverse refusal to implement the medicines legislation that it is obliged to enforce!

The beginning of the end - fluoridation must now be banned, worldwide.

This ECJ ruling effectively puts the final nail in the coffin of water fluoridation, not only within the EC but worldwide. It establishes a very substantial but entirely justified obstacle to trade in food products that are prepared without proper regard to the protection of the public that is enshrined in law. The ruling must be recognised and enforced not only in every memebr state, but also in any external state that wishes to trade with the EC in processed foods. So just what can be done to resolve the present unacceptable situation?

One solution would be to grant a medicinal licence to fluoridated water. But the Court ruled that any evaluation of a functional drink may only be done under the rigorous procedures required to scrutinise any pharmaceutical product. In the present state of scientific concern over the evidence of its lack of efficacy and safety it is impossible to imagine that such a licence could ever be granted. If it were, it would immediately result in a world-wide denunciation from the scientific community that is fully aware of the improper commercial influence that is at the heart of the international promotion of fluoridated products.

The only acceptable response is to call a halt to this controversial practice now. The experience of the past half century has shown that it is completely unjustified - indeed, it is responsible for what may reasonably be described as a pandemic of avoidable chronic fluoride poisoning. In ruling that this type of product must be regulated under medicinal law, the Court has taken the final step towards bringing this disreputable practice to a long-delayed end. Let us hope that national Governments all over the world will heed this decision - the economic consequences will be dire for those who continue to attempt to continue this discredited and illegal practice.

Dajjal will appear

The 158th verse of An’am Sura purports: “On the day when some of the signs of your Lord come, believing then will be of no avail to a person who did not believe before, or who did not earn some good through his faith.” Our master the Prophet explained this verse as follows:

(When these three things appear, believing then will be of no avail to a person who did not believe before, or who did not earn some good through his faith: the sun’s rising in the west, Dajjal, and Dabbat-ul-ard.) [Muslim, Tirmidhi, Bayhaqi]

(Dajjal will emerge from the East.) [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Maja, Imam-i Ahmad, Ibn Abi Shayba, Hakim]

(Dajjal is blind in one eye.) [Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Abu Nu’aym]

(Dajjal is short and has curly hair.) [Abu Dawud]

Are you waiting for poverty and wealth that will lead you astray, or disease that will disable you, or old age that will leave you with an unsound mind, or sudden death, or Dajjal, or Doomsday? (Take refuge in Allah from the fitnah of Dajjal.) [Muslim, Abu Dawud]

(Anyone who memorizes ten verses from the beginning or from the end of Kahf Sura will be safe from the evils of Dajjal.) [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Imam-i Ahmad]

When our master the Prophet said, “The final days of Dajjal will be very short, so much so that when one of you exits the gate of Medina, evening will fall before he reaches its hill,” they asked, “O Messenger of Allah! How will we perform salat during those short days?” In answer to their question, he stated, “You will make an estimate of it as you make an estimate of it during those long days” [Ibn Maja].

THERE CAN BE NO REFORM IN THE RELIGION

The knowledge which is acquired through tradition, that is, religious knowledge, is very exalted. It is beyond and above mind, the power of human brains. It can never be changed by any person at any time, and this is the meaning of the statement, "There can be no reform in the religion." Islam has not prohibited or limited the knowledge which is acquired through mind; yet it has commanded us to learn it together with religious knowledge and to utilize its results compatibly with the Islam. It has also commanded us to make it useful for people and not to use it as a medium for cruelty, oppression or mischief-making.
Muslims made and used many scientific tools. The compass was invented in 687 [1288 A. D.]. The rifle with a trigger was invented in 1282 [1866 A. D.]. The cannon was invented in 762 and used by Sultan Muhammed, the Conqueror. Islam prohibits the teaching and learning of immorality, false history and lies against Islam, which enemies of Islam, enemies of morality, put forward as education and give names such as "lessons" or "duties". Islam wants useful and good things and abstinence from bad and harmful propaganda.

Islam is a religion which encourages every branch of knowledge, every branch of science and every sort of experimentation. Muslims like science and believe in the experiments of the men of science. But, they cannot be deceived by the slanders and lies of false scientists, who introduce themselves as scientists.

THE EARLIER PEOPLE WERE NOT SAVAGES

Allahu ta’ala created Paradise and Hell and declared that He will fill both of them with people. For this reason, since prophet Hadrat [1] Adam, who was the first man, the earth has always had on itself Believers and disbelievers, who have quarreled with each other. The irreligious have worshipped the things which they have invented, but the Believers have adapted themselves to the Prophets and books sent by Allahu ta’ala.

Contrary to what some historians suppose and what is seen in the motion pictures made up by the enemies of Islam, our ancient predecessors were not uncouth, wild and naked people lacking knowledge and science. Yes, among the ancient peoples there were those who lived ignorantly and simply, as they do today in the deserts of Asia and Africa. Even in the forests of America savage people live like those of the Bronze Age. But neither all of today’s people nor all of the earlier people can be said to be savages just for this reason.

Hadrat Adam (’alaihis-salam) and those who followed him lived in cities. They knew how to read and write. They had such crafts as blacksmithing, making threads, weaving clothes, farming and making bread. Hadrat Adam, whose age and height could not be known exactly, lived for a thousand years and became a prophet when he was five hundred years old according to a report. Allahu ta’ala sent him ten books.

Hadrat Jabrail (’alaihis-salam) came to him twelve times. In these books, the things to be believed in, dictionaries in different languages, performing salat [2] one time a day. (A book by Ibni Abidin says this salat was the morning salat); to make a ghusl [3] ablution; to fast; not to eat a carcass, blood, pork; many branches of crafts; knowledge of medicine, medicinal substances, arithmetics and geometry were included. They even minted gold money, operated mines and made tools.

The Qur’an al-karim communicates clearly that Hadrat Noah’s ship moved with the force of the steam from its boiler that was heated by means of fire. Not based on any document or observation but for the sheer purpose of denying religions and belittling prophets, some historians say that the people of ancient civilizations were savages and that they did not know anything. In this way, they want to represent each of the Prophets, such as Adam, Shist [Shit] and Idris (’alaihimussalam) as if they were from a silly tale or a superstition, and thereby train Muslim children to be irreligious and devoid of iman (belief).

TRANSLATION of 147th LETTER


Muhammad Ma’thum Faruqi rahmatullahi alaih, who was one of the great ’Ulama [1] of India and a Murshid-i-kamil [2], states as follows in the hundred and forty-seventh letter of the first volume of his book, (Mektubat):
May Allahu ta’ala bless you and us with the honour of adapting ourselves to Muhammad ‘alaihis-salam’, who is His beloved one and the highest of Prophets! O my merciful brother! Life in the world is very short. In the hereafter, where life will be eternal and everlasting, we shall be paid for what we have done in the world. The most fortunate person in this world is the person who spends his short lifetime doing things that will do him good in the hereafter and making preparations for his long trek to the world to come. Allahu ta’ala has bestowed on you a rank, a position where by to meet people’s needs and to make them attain justice and peace. Show much gratitude for this blessing! And showing gratitude in this sense means meeting the needs of the born slaves of Allahu ta’ala. Serving the born slaves will cause you to attain high grades in this world and the next. Therefore, try to do good to the born slaves of Allahu ta’ala and to make things easy for them by treating them with a smiling face, soft words and mild behavior! This effort of yours shall make you attain love of Allahu ta’ala and high grades in the hereafter. It is stated in a hadith-i-sharif [3], “People are household, born slaves of Allahu ta’ala. He loves those who do good to His born slaves.” There are many hadith-i-sharifs telling about the virtues of and the rewards for meeting Muslims’ needs, pleasing them, and treating them tenderly, mildly, and with patience. I am writing some of them. Read carefully. If you have difficulty understanding them, ask people who are learned in Islam and truly devoted.
It is declared in a hadith-i-sharif: “(Every) Muslim is (another) Muslim’s brother. He will not be cruel to him. He will not leave him in a difficult position. If a person helps his brother, Allahu ta’ala will help him. If a person saves his brother from a difficult position, Allahu ta’ala will save him from a difficult position on the Day of Judgement. If a person pleases his brother, Allahu ta’ala will please him on the day of Judgement;” in another hadith-i-sharif:

“He who helps his brother-in-Islam will be helped by Allahu ta’ala;” in another hadith-i-sharif:

“Allahu ta’ala has created some of His born slaves for the purpose of meeting people’s needs. These people are the refuge of the distressed. These people will be safe against the torture of the Day of Judgement;” in another hadith-i¬sharif:

“Allahu ta’ala has bestowed many blessings on some of His born slaves and made them means for relieving His distressed born slaves. If they do not give these blessings to those who need them, He will take the blessings away from them and give them to others;” in another hadith-i-sharif:

“If a person helps his brother in need, he will be given thawab (reward) as if he performed i’tikaf [4] for ten years. And if a person performed i’tikaf during only one whole day for the sake of Allahu ta’ala, there would be adistance of three trenches between him and Hell. The distance between two trenches is as large as the distancebetween east and west;”

AN ADVICE

On an occasion, somebody asked [the great Wali [1]] Ibrahim ibn Ad’ham (quddisa sirruh) for advice. He said:
"If you accept six things, nothing you do will harm you. These six things are:

1) When you mean to commit a sin, do not eat the food He gives! Does it befit you to eat His food and to disobey Him?

2) When you want to rebel against Him, go out of His Domain! Does it befit you to be in His Domain and to be in rebellion against Him?

3) When you want to disobey Him, do not sin where He sees you! Sin where He does not see you! It simply is unbecoming to be in His Domain, to eat His food and then to sin where He sees you!

4) When the Angel of Death comes to take away your soul, ask him to wait till you repent! You cannot turn that angel back! Repent before he comes, while you are able, and you have the chance at this very hour, for the Angel of Death comes unexpectedly!

5) When the two angels Munker and Nakir come to question you in the grave turn them back! Do not let them test you!"
"It is impossible," said the person who asked for his advice.
Shaikh Ibrahim said, "Then prepare your answers now!

6) On the Day of Resurrection, when Allahu ta’ala orders: ’Sinners, go to Hell!’ say that you will not!"

The person said, "Nobody will listen to me," and then repented, and he did not break his repentance till death. There is Divine Effect in the words of Awliya [2].

THE SUPPLICATION OF A BELIEVER

Abdullah Ibn Tahir, the Governor of Khurasan, was very just. His gendarmes captured some thieves and reported them to the Governor. One of the thieves escaped. Mistakenly, in his place, a blacksmith from Hirat was caught on his way back from Nishapur at night. He was brought to the presence of the Governor with the thieves. The Governor said, “Imprison them!” The blacksmith made an ablution and performed salat (daily prayer). He stretched his hands and supplicated, “O my Allah! You alone know that I am innocent. Only You can free me from this jail. O my Allah! Protect me!” That night, the Governor woke up just as four strong men were about to turn his throne upside-down in his dream. He immediately made an ablution and performed two rak’ats [1] of salat. He went to sleep again. He again woke up upon dreaming that those four men were about to pull his throne down. He realized that he had been oppressing someone.


The Governor immediately called the director of the jail for that night and asked him whether there was a prisoner kept unjustly. When the director said, “I cannot know him. But there is someone who performs namaz, prays much and sheds tears.” The blacksmith was brought to the presence of the Governor, who asked him questions, realized that he was innocent, begged his pardon and said, “Please forgive me for having done an injustice to you, accept my gift of one thousand silver coins and come to me whenever you have a wish!”

The blacksmith said, “I forgive you and accept your gift. But I cannot come to you for the solution of my problems and the fulfilment of my wishes.” When he was asked its reason, he said, “Does it befit a slave like me, a humble person, to submit my wishes to someone other than my Proprietor who several times overturned the throne of a Sultan like you? He made me attain so many wishes of mine. How could I take refuge in someone else? While my Rabb [2] has opened the door of His Treasure of Endless Mercy and spread His Table of Infinite Endowment for everybody, how can I have recourse to others?

[1] Rak’at: In performing namaz, the actions of standing, bowing and putting the head on the ground twice are altogether called a rak’at. Most prayers of namaz consist of two or four rak’ats. One of them contains three rak’ats.

WHAT DOES DUNYA MEAN?

Dunya (world) is the feminine form of adna, i. e. , ism-i tafdil (adjective in the superlative degree). Its masdar (infinitive) is either dunuwwun or danaatun. When it is derived from the former, it means ‘the nearest’. The word dunya in the ayat [1], “We have adorned the lowest (nearest to the Earth) heaven with stars giving lights like lamps” is so. It has been used with the second meaning in some places. For instance, it bears the second meaning in the hadith [2], “Things that are dani, base, are mal’un.” That is, the world is mal’un. Despicable things are the nahy-i iqtiza’i and nahy-i gayr-i-iqtiza’i of Allahu ta’ala, that is, they are haram [3] and makruh [4]. Property was not spoken ill of because Allahu ta’ala made property a blessing. The evidence for this truth is the property of Ibrahim Khalil-ur-Rahman (’alaihi’s-salam), who is the second most valuable creation of all creatures and humanity. His livestock included half a million heads of cattle that filled plains and valleys.


There are many things which Allahu ta’ala has made mubah [5], which He has permitted. The value in these is more than that in the haram. Allahu ta’ala likes those who use the mubah. He dislikes those who use the haram. Does a wise and reasonable person spurn the love of his Owner and Creator for only a temporary pleasure? Besides, the number of things that are haram is very small. The flavours in the harams exist in the mubahs, too.
