(7) Narrated Anas bin Malik Sometimes Allah's Apostle would not fast (for so many days) that we thought that he would not fast that month and he sometimes used to fast (for so many days) that we thought he would not leave fasting through-out that month and (as regards his prayer and sleep at night), if you wanted to see him praying at night, you could see him praying and if you wanted to see him sleeping, you could see him sleeping. (Book #21, Hadith #242)
(134) Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah said: The Fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it, as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake. fasting is a screen (from Hell) and there are two pleasures for a fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in Allah's Sight than the smell of musk." (See Hadith No. 128, Vol. 3). (Book #93, Hadith #584)
(112) Narrated Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "(Allah said), 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.' Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk." (Book #72, Hadith #811)
(113) Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink." (Book #73, Hadith #83)

SubhanAllah!!! what a perfect example Allah has given us in Rasoul Allah S.A.W., could he be more human as a perfect example of our leader? If u wanted to see him fasting, there he was fasting. If you wanted to see him praying at night, he was praying, and if u wanted to see a man who needs rest sleeping.... there he was sleeping.... Glory be to him in whose hands our souls are..even with all the suffering in the world today, can we ever deny The Most Merciful while he has sent us a leader like this? Allahu akbar!!!
From all the good deeds we do, it is for ourselves, but the fasting is a gift to us from Allah, and that is totally for the sake of Allah. Who else is watching you when u are alone and u refrain from food and drink? Who else can u be impressing when u keep away from your wives/husbands, or when u are trying not to lie, swear, cheat ect etc.. Only Allah see’s you 24 hours a day to know if u are fasting, and it is for his sake, and he will give the rewards in many ways for this.
Allah does not need any of us, we need him, and he has given this to us as a gift. People starve themselves for days and call it fasting, some do other things and call it fasting, but our Nabi S.A.W. taught us how to fast in a manner which is pleasing and accepted by Allah, so this is a gift, and should be appreciated.
May Allah give us the ability to benefit from this Ramadhan better than ever before and protect us from spoiling our fasting insha Allah.
