The problem is this... every anti-American faction in Iraq has
declared full, out-and-out war on every GI here. Their obvious plan is
maximize their efforts to kill as many Americans possible prior to the
elections back home to make Mr. Bush appear either incompetent or
incapable, or both.

Everyone here has all but declared Mission Failure. We are all quite
aware that we have reached our Stalingrad and the matter is no longer
when will victory come but how soon defeat will appear inevitable to
the dense Mssrs. Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush back home.

We anticipate a general quarters order soon. Perhaps by locking down
the majority of people here and getting as many as possible off the
street we can minimize casualties. But we have no hope. We anticipate
between 500 to 1,000 U.S. deaths between now and November 2nd.

The apparent cause of the problem is the lengthy time it is taking to
severely punish those involved in humiliating Muslim men. These people
quite understand the American judicial process but find it intolerable
particularly when these trials are in the military jurisdiction but
are being deliberately slowed as if the guilty were being tried in
civilian courts. These people here aren't stupid. They know that the
England matter, for example, is being deliberately slowed so that the
birth of her child next month will further delay if not cancel-out her
conviction. The natives here see their people arrested, tried and
convicted by American judges in a matter of hours, but Americans who
commit crimes against Iraqis enjoy months of deliberations and delays
only to be freed for one excuse or another.
